In late October, the green field of the Temi tea garden blooms with cherry trees, adding a pinkish hue to the greenery. With the Khangchendzonga range in the background, the place looks almost magical.
Temi Tea Garden, situated in Ravangla, was established in 1969 by the government of Sikkim. The tea garden covers an approximate area of 177 hectares of land. Tea produced in Temi is organic and is valued in India as well as international auctions.
The Drive Towards the Tea Garden
The 16 km drive from Namchi to Temi Tea Garden is a peaceful one. With the Namchi rock garden on one side and tall pine trees on the other, this ride feels like an escape into nature. Along the way, you feel the temperature change, the air gets cooler, and mist covers the road ahead. The spinning of tires on the smooth road, the glimpse of the snowy Khangchendzonga range ahead, and soft music in your car, fill the heart with a sense of calmness.
Arriving at the Garden
As you reach the cherry tea garden, all you will see is a land covered with tea trees. The air mixed with the fragrance of tea and the vast sky awaken your senses.
When a big sign of “I love Temi” comes into view, you'll know you have reached your destination.
Walking in the Garden
The best time to visit Temi Tea Garden is late October to November. During these months, the real magic happens. The field, once covered with just tea trees, now blooms with pink cherry blossoms.
Walking the path between the tea rows, you’ll see workers—mostly women with baskets tied behind their backs collecting tea leaves. Above them, cherry branches with pink blooms. The sound of cicadas fills the afternoon, and the snowy mountains of Khangchendzonga peak out from behind the clouds.

Temi’s Tea Factory
Before you leave, visit the tea factory on the hill. Once entered, the air smells like drying leaves—earthy, almost floral. Workers follow the same production method passed down from generation to generation. In the testing room, they’ll pour you different cups of grades: first flush, second flush, third, and autumn tea. Each tastes different—light, strong, dark and some with a hint of warm spices. These tastes might make you forget your coffee.
When to Visit?
Spring (March-May): The weather is clear, the tea garden is green and fresh, and you can try the first flush of tea.
Autumn (November): The best time to visit. This is when the cherry blossoms make the estate enchanting and picture perfect.
Late October-December: Cool weather, snowy peaks, gorgeous views of mountains.
Monsoon (June-August): Avoid visiting during this time. The rainfall in these months is heavy and can ruin your experience in Temi.
